WIA Services at The Job Center

Core Services at The Job Center

Unregistered Core - Self- help customers are offered access to the "Job Search Center". This includes access to, employment research tools, computerized skill assessment, and tutorial programs and access to Internet job search. They also have access to a library of employment statistical and local job market information, lists of WIA approved/one-stop support activities, WIA and non-WIA training sources and associated costs, current job postings, resume writing information, networking, job search and interviewing information. Center users have access to telephone, faxes and copiers to assist with their job search.

All customers entering The Job Center are invited to an in-depth systematic program orientation. The orientation includes an overview of WIA, partner services, an introduction to the Individual Employment Plan process and an overview of core, intensive and training services. Immediately after the orientation prospective customers meet with placement specialists to determine a service plan for the appropriate core, intensive or training services.

Registered Core - These services involve individualized assistance from a job placement associate and/or workshops/modules aimed at increasing job search skills. Modules include communications, customer service, resume writing, networking, interviewing, computer and financial management skills. Other services include, job matching, marketing and job placement.

Other Services at The Job Center

Intensive Services - Testing and assessment capabilities include access to over 30 industry-recognized academia, aptitude, skill, and occupational interest instruments. Other services include the Career Express Workshop individual and group counseling, short-term pre vocational training, or a combination of those services. The Individual Employment Plan (IEP) is also developed during this phase. Intensive applicants must meet eligibility requirements.

Training - Training services include referral to both public and private training activities and the development of an Individual Training Account. Training includes, occupational skills training in demand occupations, on the job training, customized training for incumbent workers, job matching, and long term follow up for at least 1 year following job placement. Supportive services and cross referrals with established community partners to eliminate employment and/or training obstacles are also provided during this phase. Training applicants must meet eligibility requirements.
