Summit Workforce Solutions
Since its inception, Summit Workforce Solutions’ (SWS) goal has been to empower the area’s employers and workers through education, training and employment services. SWS is looking toward the future to ensure that our workforce continues to strengthen and therefore sustain our vibrant and growing region. Summit Workforce Solutions, with funding from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation and Akron Tomorrow, worked with the Greater Akron Chamber and the County of Summit to develop a world-class workforce facility offering employers, workers and job seekers an array of services. Its first major initiative, The Job Center, houses more than 20 partnering agencies that offer services including expanded youth programs, on-site childcare, transportation and extended hours.
Taking the next natural step, Summit Workforce Solutions now has its sights set squarely on ensuring long-term empowerment of the area’s workforce.
Summit Workforce Solutions is an independent 501(c)3 non-profit corporation and is responsible for oversight of The Job Center. The board of directors consists of a majority of business professionals and executives along with representatives from economic development, education and community organizations.
MISSION: to facilitate workforce development to support the growth, retention, attraction and creation of business in the area.
VISION: to be the region’s “go to” organization for workforce development expertise, support and services that help build the workforce of the future.
