BACKGROUND
The Job Center is part of a local workforce development system whose mission is to maximize employment and economic opportunity in Summit County by being the resource for every employer and job seeker in the region. Fourteen partner organizations have joined together to provide workshops for businesses and job seekers, resource materials, a career library with a bank of internet connected computers, phones, fax machines, a computer lab, copiers, labor exchange, job matching, employment screening and much more.
The Job Center and the local workforce system are overseen by a board of community business leaders and executives along with representatives from education, labor, and community organizations. The facility is owned by the Summit County Workforce Policy Board, a local non-profit corporation. Its construction was financed through the Summit County Port Authority with the support and cooperation of Summit County Executive James B. McCarthy, the Greater Akron Chamber and the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation.
